Thank you to the artists and other friends who will be joining the cyber reading 11/11-13, 2011 of the dynamic book BLACK PEOPLE AND THEIR PLACE IN WORLD HISTORY by Dr. Leroy Vaughn, MD, MBA, Historian, Humanitarian and Honorary African Chief.

This is a Griot's mission. After decades of research, Dr. Vaughn's Black history book was a series of 5 minute history lessons broadcast on KPFK Radio. That was followed by a series of articles for the Los Angeles Sentinel entitled "Our African Heritage", a weekly series written from his floor to ceiling room of Black history books that he has built and devoured since the 1960's.

Black history is Dr. Vaughn's passion and his insights revolutionized my life. From his articles I learned about Black Wall Street and the grit it sometimes takes to overcome anything. From his piece about the five other Black presidents are I learned 'no tellin' whose passin or if they even know...they did and took the shot anyway. Hatshepsut, Queen Nzinga and many other women throughout the book stand as historic proof of femine power expressed in ultimate leadership positions. A dangerous sewage system is not native to Harlem.

If you're smelling it, you're breathing it I told many people in Harlem from Congressman Charles Rangel to a passerby on the street kind enough to listen and accept a flier.

The problem of the health impact of our sewage treatment plants is much bigger than the traditional media is reporting. I've posted my research from before I left Harlem in '98 on this blog.

It's not a problem one can run away from. All across the eastern seaboard old sewage system are cracking, exposing resident to air borne toxins.

"The sinkhole is located south of their homes, according to city engineer Jack Kusek. Todd Schmollinger said a separate pool of sewage “three or four cars long” has seeped up through the ground 30 yards from his deck.

“The cleanup of (that area) would be nice in the near future. I’m tired of smelling sewage,” he said.

Kusek said the city has begun looking for a way to fix the problem. After mine reclamation work was done, slag was spread on top of sewer pipes. Those pipes were buried about 16 feet below the surface now lie 30 feet below, under more pressure than they were built for.

After city workers found the sinkhole earlier this summer, John Pohar & Sons Inc. began excavation with the hope of replacing the damaged pipe. But the more they dug in search of undamaged pipe to connect to, the more broken pipe they uncovered. More than 40 feet of pipe have been exposed, Kusek said, and they still have not found a solid section."

To solve the problem we need to replace our failed sewage and water systems with modern hemp plastic and hempcrete. Henry Ford said hemp plastic is 10 times stronger than steel.

All parts of the system need air tight covers and constant VOC and other scientific forms of monitoring.

Janice Wells called the Richland Police Department when she feared a prowler was outside her clapboard house in the rural west Georgia town.

The third-grade teacher had phoned for help. But within minutes of an officer coming to her backdoor, she was screaming in pain and begging not to be shocked again with a Taser. With each scream and cry, the officer threatened her with more shocks.

"All of it's just unreal to me. I was scared to death," Wells said . "He kept tasing me and tasing me. My fingernails are still burned. My leg, back and my butt had a long scar on it for days."

The officer in question is Ryan Smith of the Lumpkin Police Department. Smith was called to back up an officer from the Richland Police Department because the sheriff's office in the county, Stewart, had no deputies to send.

Smith resigned as a result of the incident. The other officer involved, Tim Murphy of Richland PD, was fired for using pepper spray while trying to arrest Wells.

Wells is considering filing a lawsuit, according to her attorney,.

The details of the altercation between Wells and the officers have been fodder discussions in the two towns, which are only 10 miles apart. Some have speculated there was a racial component to the altercation between Wells and the policemen; Wells is black and the officers are white.

Stewart County Sheriff Larry Jones, who came to the house seconds after the last electric shock was administered, suspects the outcome would have been different if the woman had been white and the officers black.

"I don't think they would have done a white female like that," said Jones, who is black. "If they had, it wouldn't have been any doubt about whether they need to be terminated."

I write this as a third generation Harlemite in exile. What use to be Harlem after decades of poverty pimps lead by Con. Charles Rangel has created a situation where to some violence is the only way to solve things. Like Iran Contra, AIDS and eco-racism, poverty pimps take money under the table as payment for the souls of the people. 'Taint fittin, just 'taint fittin.

No Child Left Behind left many of our young people behind in legion numbers. Our children are lost and it's up to us to help them find the truth about the world. When I was training folks on computers at Minisink Townhouse, I got in a battle with some of Harlem's poverty pimps about the violent video games.

I said if we teach children to solve problems with violence, they will be more likely to use violence to solve their problems.

The training was shut down cold and blood letting not seen since the days of the numbers wars is killing folks.

There is a lot about policy at cause for the violence. The technique used in Harlem is create a crisis and pretend to solve it. Keeps the people's minds off of the wholesale stealing going on.

In Harlem folks are surrounded by 5 open sewers which are at cause for many health problems. Unhealthy adults cannot focus on the joy of their children and so many of the young folks are sad, and mad, great customers for what takes pain away and reduces the intense feelings of hopelessness.

This has got to stop. Now would be a good time.

The most evil thing to happen to Harlem was the stolen election from the people's champion in 1970, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. to the capitalist tool Con Charles Rangel. The election process in Harlem is still so corrupt that in the 2008 primary in many neighborhood locations, now President Obama got ZERO votes. I still question the election results of 1994, when Assemblyman Powell ran for congress against the corrupt Con Rangel.

Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. was inspiring, helping folks lift themselves out of poverty. Under Rangle's Rule Harlem was a lock, probably to encourage folks to sell out. AIDS, crack/cocaine/heroin, disempowerment zone, 5 open sewers, warlike police force, etc. mark his reign. Doing nothing effective is doing something too. He helped transform Harlem into a place of shattered dreams.

It would be such poetic justice for former Congressman Powell's son, who has dedicated his life to serving Harlem anyway, won back the seat in his and his father's name.

Then, Harlem could be back on track as a location of dreams achieved, computers and all.

What happens to a dream achieved?

When I realized in 1998 that Harlem's poverty pimps were not going to do anything to help Harlem's environmental problems, were committed to keeping computers out of Harlem, and satisified with the status quo regarding AIDS and crack and other empowerment issues, I left. It is an unnecessary health risk to be surrounded by 5 open sewers. Anything could be in that............

Common sense says if you are smelling the sewer, you're breathing it. Airborne particles find their way into people's bodies. The illusion that hospital waste is treated differently is a dangerous flaw. Sick people from all over the world come to New York and use the sewers before they check into the hospital.

The 5 Open Sewers Surrounding Harlem do more than stink in the summer time. North River, Wards Island, Tallmans, Hunts Point and Bowery Bay Water Pollution Control Plants are releasing toxins into the already polluted environment. Over the last century NYC is the recipient of transportation, pest control, heating/cooling, etc. toxins, settled into walls, fabrics and streets. Ooops, I forgot to add the dust from the World Trade Center. Asbestos does not wash out.

The two most obvious sewers, North River (135th & Hudson River, 10027) and Wards Island (Wards Island, NYC 10035) Water Pollution Control Plants (Sewage Treatment Plants) are on the west side of Harlem and in the river off of the east side respectively.

Across the bay are the other three.

The year after North River was built there was a radical rise in the infant mortality rate. Yet when I was there in the 80's & 90's the discussion was limited to odor and flow, which haven’t killed anybody. It's the accompanying toxins that kill, not the smell.

When you connect the dots on the chart below you'll see when the North River plant was open and rises and falls in Harlem's infant mortality rates over the years and plant actions.

In great part due to the open windows at all ends of the North River, and open outdoor tanks at Wards Island, Harlem in particular and the metro NY area in general were breathing, daily, volatile organic compounds (VOC's -airborne living organisms) from these sewage tanks. If the tanks are not covered, folks still are.

Politics and common sense need to merge in Harlem. Start with cleaning out the corruption.

Harlem's best park, Riverbank State Park, is located over the North River sewer plant and has people, among them children and seniors, exercising over an open sewer…not healthy.

The NYC EPA says “The roof of the building is the home of Riverbank State Park, a popular recreational facility with three swimming pools, an amphitheater, an athletic center, a skating rink, a restaurant and sports fields - and, of the two New York State park facilities in the City, the only one built on top of a water pollution control plant.”

The park's won many awards while placing Harlem residents in danger of toxic chemicals, methane gas and mutating germs.

There are germs in the sewer air. Environmentalists are being honored in Harlem who keep the conversation about odor and flow rather than toxins and germs and toxic chemicals coming off the sewers.

Sewer System As A Source of Germ Disbursement: “The greatest danger…in breathing of sewer air is that of inhaling with it the living particles (bacilli, etc.) contained or developed in the excrement of diseased persons.” {Roger S. Tracy, Handbook Of Sanitary Information For Households, NY Appleton, 1895}

Sick people from all over the world come to New York City to benefit from her extraordinary medical system. Though hospital waste is handled separately from the general sewer system, during the time before sick people check into the hospital, and, if they remain in the city, after they leave, are using the general sewer facilities.

In this time of terrorism, toxic materials (both medical and chemical that could cause illness and death) can be dropped into the sewer system and a large portion of the population could be impacted days after the event. Unnecessary risk.

Floating material could contain harmful elements and the results, devastating. This is because many, if not all of the NYC sewer plants, are not covered and in some cases could be easily contaminated from street or building levels without the culprit being noticed.

At North River, the large windows by the tanks are open. At Ward’s Island, the tanks are outside. Though we are encouraged to take comfort in the fact that chlorine kills 85-95% of the germs in the sewer, the more relevant question is what is in the other 5-15% that is strong enough to survive chlorine, food additives, genetically altered foods, human growth hormone, antibiotics, etc.

Consider what happens when those strong germs and toxic chemicals get together in North River’s secondary and sludge tanks, with their steam wafting off to open windows. Also, the additional chlorine put into the environment via tap water and flushed into the river can have a seepage effect on the land it comes in contact with, further empowering mutating bacteria.

The water in North River’s secondary tanks frequently has steam coming off them, which lifts some germs and they become air borne. As you saw in the chart Harlem's infant morality rate in the year after the North River Plant went into operation was raised and by 1993 was 2.5 times higher than the rest of the City.

What needs to happen to correct the problem?

First, the sewer windows need to be covered or, like at Ward's Island where the open sewer tanks are outside, at least the tanks sealed, like what was in the original plans.

“The problem with covering and air treating the secondary tanks is one of expense … NYCDEP’s rough estimate for subjecting the secondary tanks in a similar odor control system as that for the primary tank is in excess of $100 million.” From “The Smell of Success? An assessment of Odor Control Measures at the North River Water Pollution Control Plant” (June, 1994)

Where are they shopping? Tiffany’s? What about hemp plastic to cover the sewers? What about growing hemp to aerate the soil and pull the excess CO2 out of the atmosphere? What about medical hemp to help with the areas intense asthma and other health problems? What about hemp to heal New York's economy to create a modern infrastructure system. We need to honestly evaluate the situation at hand and bring forward better ideas on waste treatment. Johan Cruijff said "Every disadvantage carries with it an advantage." One of the things that Harlem taught me is the disadvantage is always of equal or greater value.

A project of fixing the environmental problems can use a NYC labor pool, featuring Harlem residents trained for the job. Community residents will be motivated to do a good job because they and their families are breathing the air.

Harlem has a master level engineer in her hero and former owner of the Langston Hughes House, Albert Davis. I still think he won the election when he ran against Congressman Rangel in the 90's. With President Obama getting zero votes in Harlem in the 2008 primary, I believe now more than ever that Albert won.

Second, regular testing of the sewer's contents and airborne materials need to be done and the results published. That sewer readings were not useable in determining the toxic levels in the air on 9/11/09 proves the worthlessness of the system at that time. I'm open to news of improvements that are not published.

The people have a right to know what's in the air, water and land more than they need a say over "is Coke or Pepsi or Snaple going to get the vending contract for the park on top of the sewer.

Please, tell New York's elected and appointed officials to stop leaving New Yorkers in danger of environmental hazards like when the WTC fell, and cover the open sewers, and not just the ones around Harlem.

They include a Merrill Lynch Global account valued between $250,000 and $500,000; tens of thousands of dollars in municipal bonds; and $30,000 to $100,000 in rent from a multifamily brownstone building he owned on West 132nd Street.”

Over the decades Congressman Rangel's been in office, there have been questions about the accuracy of the vote count or the uncanny similarity of signatures on petitions. An unguarded moment was found in last year’s primary election results for a candidate that the congressman supported.

“Black voters are heavily represented in the 94th Election District in Harlem’s 70th Assembly District. Yet according to the unofficial results from the New York Democratic primary last week, not a single vote in the district was cast for Senator Barack Obama.

In fact, a review by The New York Times of the unofficial results reported on primary night found about 80 election districts among the city’s 6,106 where Mr. Obama supposedly did not receive even one vote, including cases where he ran a respectable race in a nearby district."

Q: How many signatures are required for the referendum to be placed on the ballot?

The minimum requirement is 30,000 signatures. With this amount the petition can be filed with the City Clerk, who certifies its validity and submits it to City Council, which then votes on whether or not to place the referendum on the ballot. If an excess of 45,000 signatures is collected, the referendum will automatically be placed on the ballot, overruling City Council’s vote. NYCCAN aims to collect well above 45,000 signatures to ensure the referendum is placed on the ballot in the event of City Council rejecting the referendum or failing to vote on it within the required 60-day period.

Q: When is the deadline for submitting the petition?

July 3, 2009. The petition must be submitted at least four months prior to the November 3, 2009 general election to allow the City Clerk and City Council the legally allotted period of time to certify the petition’s validity and to vote on it.

Section 37 of the New York Municipal Home Rule Law lays out the process by which the voters of any city in New York State can petition and vote for the adoption of amendments to their city charter.

Q: How will this new investigation proceed?

This investigation will be non-partisan and independent of government control. A panel of Commissioners will conduct hearings to evaluate evidence provided by teams of researchers. These teams will compile evidence on every possible category of investigation. They will question witnesses, experts, and issue subpoenas when necessary. The scientists, legal counsel, researchers and investigators who make up the commission will follow the trail of evidence wherever it may lead. Finally, the Commission will publish one or more reports, and will have the ability based on its findings to seek indictments and to work with prosecutorial agencies towards achieving justice for the events of 9/11.

Q: Will a new investigation work to obtain justice and necessary benefits for 9/11 First Responders and others who were at the scene?

Yes. Up to 70% of First Responders and others afflicted have died or become ill, and many more will likely become ill in the future. There are also reports of birth defects in children of First Responders. Illnesses reported in First Responders include cancers of the lung, throat, tongue, testicles, breasts, bladder, kidney, colon, intestine, and rare blood cancers, as well as other cancers such as lymphoma, leukemia, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma. The government has yet to allocate the necessary funds to deal with this health crisis, consistently refusing to acknowledge that any of these people are sick because of 9/11. Congress allocated $1 billion to a fund for First Responders and other injured parties, under the name World Trade Center Captive Insurance Company, but so far, none of the 8,000+ claims filed toward this fund have been granted. Additionally, many are suffering terrible financial losses from medical expenses and inability to work.

Q: Will the Commission really have subpoena power?

Yes. The Commission’s subpoena power will be broad and will extend to all governmental agencies. Just as the first 9/11 Commission experienced difficulty in gaining access to needed documents and testimony, the new Commission will likely encounter resistance. However, the new Commission, unlike the first 9/11 Commission, will not hesitate to issue subpoenas and go through federal courts to attain enforcement orders.

Q: How do we know this Commission will do a better job than the first 9/11 Commission?

Unlike the first 9/11 Commission, the new Commission will be completely independent because it will be comprised of individuals with no interest in protecting the government from accountability. To guarantee that this Commission will be completely independent and pursue the evidence wherever it may lead, the selection of the first eight Commissioners has been written into the petition, and the additional Commissioners (the Commission will have up to fifteen members) will be appointed only by majority vote of the existing Commission members.

Q: Will the public be able to have any input on the selection of additional Commissioners?

you to ask for your assistance in getting the word out about the campaign
here in NYC to place the issue of a new (real) investigation of 9/11 on

Oh Happy Day!!! Caroline Kennedy as the senator from New York.

I left NY almost 11 years ago, and this is the first shred of hope I have for divine restoration of New York state. New York needs a senator who will fight for her and Caroline Kennedy has the power and wisdom to do it.

I've been advocating for years the need to deal with World Trade Center Illness. Since I don't live in New York, Senator Clinton does not respond to me. I believe Kennedy will take on that issue and win the necessary funding and other support required to solve the problem, unlike the senator she is replacing who is so ineffective on the issue that the victims had to march on Washington last year for support.

When the EPA said the air and water were safe on 9/13/01, the current senators were silent. There were no demands to see the air quality reports from the sewers or the city's EPA numbers, which would have shown high toxic levels from the exploded WTC 1, 2 & 7; enough to have ordered an evacuation, not a lock down of the city. Instead of the senators speaking out immediately, the city was left to the mercy of the mayor's management. We are learning how that turned out as body parts are being found on the site as recently as last year.

According to Kennedy's cousin, Robert Kennedy Jr's Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) report, THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF THE WORLD TRADE CENTER ATTACKS - A PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT "At least 10,000 New Yorkers have suffered short-term health ailments from Trade Center generated air contaminants." Reports are that the fall out from those buildings was as toxic as drain cleaner. "World Trade Center Cough" and "World Trade Center Illness" are medical phrases.

The WTC buildings held, as reported by the NRDC, 1.2 million tons of building materials. This was mixed with thousands of gallons of jet fuel containing benzene and other toxic chemicals. Included in the buildings contents were 300-400 tons of asbestos, 424,000 tons of concrete, an estimated 50,000 personal computers with 4 pounds of lead per computer or 200,000 pounds of lead just from the pc's, glass, PCB's, mercury from the light bulbs and computers, 130,000 gallons of transformer oil, and Lord knows what else. NRDC calls the 9/11 disaster a "pollution event."

If Kennedy had been senator then, I assume the subject would have come up over the family holiday dinner.

When she becomes senator, the environment in New York will finally get real care. She has the connections to raise the funds needed to help people in the tri-state area deal with the economic and health issues this disease presents.

I've added to my prayer list that Gov. David Patterson do the right thing and give the people of the great state of New York a champion senator they deserve. With the upcoming World Trade Center Illness crisis (the dust was not limited to below 14th Street as reported) it is best to have a well connected, independent champion in the senate.

This change is gonna be great, Lord willing.

NYC Made The Golden Rule Illegal!!!

"NEW YORK - Twenty-two New York City churches have been ordered by the city to stop providing shelter to the homeless."

When I left NYC 10 years ago not even I knew that the City would stoop so low as to make the golden rule, 'do onto others as you would have others do onto you,' illegal. Have they no shame? Instead of empowering the churches to take on the task for 5 days of service, it shuts down the beds for the days that they can provide service.

I know the elections are fixed (zero votes for Obama during the '08 primary in many Harlem districts) and maybe that is the reason they govern so ruthlessly with no regards for the victims of their policies. Poverty pimps need poverty to pimp which requires a level of disillusionment. Turned away from a church, qualifies. It helps pump up the sense of helplessness they need to stay in business.

New York use to be a beacon of hope. In this economic crisis, where we have no clue who will be homeless next year, it's a potential nightmare, one already for some.

With the feds heads you know where, NYC government is free to hurt who they want from traffic harassment, to beds for the homeless, to murder by wrong address or color.

Remember, the feds could not have lied on 9/13/01 that the air was safe to breathe and the water safe to drink without the consent of the NYC government. They knew the EPA was lying. They had the air quality readings from the sewer system and the City's EPA. If you care, check out World Trade Center Illness, which is a direct result of government policy to put NYC on lockdown rather than evacuate.

Based on results, the NYC government does not have the best interests of the people of New York at heart, especially those most in need. That's not a new revelation, just a restatement of a fact. Like Prison, Inc., the system is looking for more customers and this is one way to do it.

What needs to happen is an upliftment of the term 'community activist.' Folks working for little to no pay to make their community a better place, like what Barack Obama did in Chicago in the 90's, should be empowered to do good.

This should be expanded to include homes, like what Mother Hale did in Harlem in the '80's and 90's. She took in who she could for as long as she could. More families and friends could take folks in for less money than is spent on big institutions.

The government lies and says the problem is money. Talk about pretend not to know. The resources the government is putting into destroying lives for interacting with the hemp plant should be re-directed into a fund to help us solve our problems now.

If NYC got 20% of all recreational hemp sales, the conversation would be about what to do with so much extra cash. Plus, planting hemp, with its 6 foot root system, would aerate the soil of many of the toxins still left from the exploded World Trade Center. For more on hemp please visit the USA Hemp Museum.

I hope the Obama adminstration is wise enough to unconditionally end hemp prohibition and begins solving problems with the income from America's #1 cash crop.

The way to solve the problem of homelessness, is to provide homes for folks without. It's that simple and with computers, it can be a piece of cake.

Hale House Shuts Doors To Orphans

"In its place is the Mother Hale Learning Center, which provides educational day care for 36 kids, and a transitional housing program that has helped 161 homeless families and 297 children get back on their feet in the past four years, Hale House officials said.

"The drug and AIDS crisis of past decades diminished over time as did the need for emergency respite care," Hale House Executive Director Randy McLaughlin said in a written statement.

"That welcome circumstance . . . permitted the organization to extend its reach to serve a much larger population of children."

Hale House has been financially hobbled since it imploded in 2001, after a Daily News series exposed financial wrongdoing and neglected children under Hale's daughter, Lorraine, and her husband, Jesse DeVore.

They were indicted on 72 counts of stealing donors' millions and booted from the nonprofit by then-Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.

The cash crunch forced the new directors of Hale House to burn through more than $12 million in savings Lorraine Hale left behind. They also took out a $1.6 million loan in 2007 to run their programs, according to their most recent tax filing.

Housing babies and toddlers in an orphanage-like setting with round-the-clock child care workers was expensive, as well as outmoded.

In 2006, the new team moved the babies out of the historic brownstone into two apartment buildings the charity owns across from Morningside Park. Since then, they quietly began to phase out the residential program.

Sources told The News the last of the 10 children housed there were either adopted, placed in foster care or returned to relatives in July.

"It's a shame they are only focusing on day care and transitional housing," one veteran Hale House employee said. "That residence was Mother Hale's legacy, her dream. That should have been saved."

Another child care worker who didn't want to be named said, "We were really attached to those children. It's sad. I'm just hoping they didn't go to a bad place."

McLaughlin said Hale House's mission "to provide child-centered, family-focused programs to those in need has not changed and never will. Should any parents with challenges come to us, we will assist them with emergency child placement."

The web is once again a way to make great connections.

I spoke with Don Hogan Charles. He is still in Harlem living as an independent photographer. He's one of those great unsung heroes who keeps on keeping on no matter what. We didn't speak long, but this post made it to his family, who, bless their hearts, got the word to him. Now he has time to create a most amazing series of books and videos from his half century plus of brilliant photography.

The New York Times is run by fools in my opinion. From selling their building in Times Square to not holding onto key talent, they've taken the paper that my grandfather swore by, lifted himself up with, and turned it into a mouthpiece for the story of 19 lucky Arabs on 9/11. How to solve World Trade Center Illness should be a priority since they failed to question the EPA when it said the air was safe to breathe and the water safe to drink on 9/13. It's what happens when the priority changes from news/truth to profits instead of a balance.

Below is my original post dated November 7, 2007 at 7:29 A.M.

I called the New York Times to reach the Black American trail blazer Don Hogan Charles to find out that he is gone with no forwarding address, phone or email. Does anyone know where he is or what happened?

I can find no posted notice of him leaving the paper? I emailed folks at the New York Times and asked on the phone but no answer more than a week later. He worked there about 40 years, giving Harlem a voice in mainstream media.

What's also troubling is I can find no thank you to him for being the New York Times first Black photographer.

It was Malcolm X who recommended (more drama than that world contains) Don for the job at the Times. He delivered the shot of Malcolm X at a window with a gun, an image reflected in the current Black on Black murder rate as Malcolm's gun was pointed at thugs in the neighborhood for openers.

I am working on a project regarding restoring peace and prosperity to the inner city. Addressing the violence is the first step. I need Don to discuss strategy, as he is one of the greatest strategist I've ever known.

My x brother in law, Chauncey Bailey, was murdered this summer in Oakland and I did a YouTube reading of his prophetic article GENOCIDE OR HOMICIDE: BLACK ON BLACK MURDER.

I'm working on the next video. With a goal of solving the problem, I wanted to get Don on video talking about what drove Malcolm X to take a gun to his own religion. What was it like back in the 60's to make a smart man take a gun to his window? How did the rest of the community respond? Can Don go back to that building (spot) all these years later? What would Malcolm see today and what observations does he think the man with a gun would share?

There is a video up that says in 2005 there were about 50 murders in Harlem. That's a 45 block area. Of course the closing will be Don's recommendations for Harlem and New York.

Don has the grace to see the world with his extraordinary vision. He's dedicated his being to his craft. I'm sure his observations would be healing.

When my friends and I were teaching thousands of folks in dis-empowerment zone Harlem as the Computer Underground Railroad how to use a computer, Don would frequently show up with encouragement and wisdom.

I remember after doing a 13 hour training day, and he doing a full day's work at the Times, he would come at the end of the day, tell the folks 'it's 9:00, let Nayer rest, good night.'

The presence of his spirit and camera at a training I was doing with a 92 year old great Harlem Lady, Roxanna Dawson, raised her spirit enough for her to say after learning the mouse, 'if I can do it, the rest of you have no excuse.' Wherever Don is, higher standards are set.

I was fighting dragon level poverty pimps who would have taken me out years earlier without Don's wisdom. By the time the poverty pimps knew what I was doing and closed the training down, we had already helped over 3,000 folks learn how to use a computer. The cost of the training was that it be passed onto at least two other folks.

As a Harlem environmentalist, his wisdom was key, part of a mastermind alliance, when I was sorting out the problem of Harlem being surrounded by 5 sewers and the impact that was having on the infant mortality rate.

Or when the school on Harlem's upper east side (140's) that was an old dry cleaner and was converted to a school without proper clean up, it was Don who pointed out that the chemicals had probably seeped into the groundwater and more than just the children at the school have been exposed. I was able to add that information to my Harlem as an environmental disaster area presentation. Not that the poverty pimps did anything with the information, but at least they were warned.

So you see why I am concerned that this hero is allowed to just drop out without as much as a webpage on what happened, where and how he is, and what is he working on now. Did he at least get a publishing deal?

After 25 years in NYC, I left Harlem in '98 and live in Arizona now, so walking to his building isn't an option.

So I'm asking in this format too as I continue my search.

Am I seeing on the internet the first Black photographer at the New York Times trashed, without as much as a webpage on his ground breaking work over the decades?

The press gave us more than enough fill of Jayson Blair, and is quiet on the historic, wonderful career of Don Hogan Charles.

His photos of the building moving down the street still make me smile. His portraits are inspiring because he knows how to capture the soul too.

I want to make sure he knows how brilliant and appreciated his work is.

It would be a shame before God to let this great artist, who served his craft and community, drop off the map without the honor he's earned.

Why Isn't Gov. David Patterson Screaming About 9/11?

Can somebody please explain to me why the new governor of New York, David Patterson, is not screaming and demanding an immediate, vetted investigation into what really happened on 9/11/01. He has inherited a state with a huge wound and little to no resources to heal it.

There are many webeos on the subject of 9/11 Truth, i.e. Loose Change, a great 9/11 starter piece. (Not the last edited one, the Second Edition)

The military was on stand down on 9/11. Dr. Steven E. Jones reports thermite was found at the WTC site. Many witnesses reported hearing explosions. The main beneficiary of the crime is the Bush Administration, who used the event as a motivation to their march to war.

Governor Patterson's first responsibility should be to the people of New York, unlike that of the federal government.

Rep. Darrell Issa 'Worst Person' for Refusing 9/11 Sick Aid

New Yorkers are suffering and dying from World Trade Center Illness, not just the first responders either. Though there have been studies and folks registered, no help is available when disease manifest. As witnessed by body parts still being found at the site, the city was never cleaned of the exploded World Trade Centers 1, 2 & 7.

Rather than take a proactive strategy of preventative medicine, the government chose, despite repeated warnings, to study the problem.

Governor Patterson needs to lead the fight to help New Yorkers, and the dust did not stop at 14th Street, deal with the unspoken health crisis people are experiencing.

The governor needs to demand unconditional health care to all exposed.

Pay for the medical bill with complete legalization of hemp in New York. Apply a 20% recreational hemp tax. It's a perfect place for a ground zero fight of states vs. federal rights.

Please know I'm so proud of you and the work you and your crew are doing documenting the urban experience of many of our young people. Congratulations on being back on Youtube. I can't wait until you have all your original webeos back on line.

I am grateful you've posted HOW TO SHOOT A COP on YouAreTV.com . The way you put together many of the images of innocent young people murdered by Prison, Inc. was one of the most powerful pieces I've seen on the web.

You asked what I thought about the young man, Sean Bell, murdered by the NYPD. In a word LYNCHING.

I've pasted Dr. Leroy Vaughn's article from his book BLACK PEOPLE AND THEIR PLACE IN WORLD HISTORY that looks at many aspects of lynching at the end of this piece. Dr.Vaughn said:

"Lynching is defined as mob execution, usually by hanging, without the benefit of trial and often accompanied with torture and body mutilation. The usual scenario included a mob of up to 5,000 White men attacking a single, defenseless Black man and executing him for a crime he was never convicted of or even charged with in most cases. Lynching is considered one of the most horrific chapters in African American history and is only exceeded by slavery in cruelty and savagery toward another human being. "

In modern times the technique has changed, but the results remain the same. The list of NYPD, LAPD, etc. lynchings is longer than we have a clue about here in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Any reason will do. Journalists, citizens, folks just visiting, they don't care who they murder. They have a butchers bill to fill and it does not matter who is taken down to fill it.

The Sean Bell verdict is another wake-up call. American citizens are being murdered in the streets by the government and there is no place the People can go for justice. The government can shoot unarmed folks because they think a person has a gun, or not, and walk out of court free folks. There will come a point where the American people realize that justice died a long time ago in the court system.

Sean Bell is an old story that we need to write THE END to. It's time to stop being fools. We go to the source of evil for justice and wonder why it does not work. Lady Justice's blindfold is how the court justifies some truth can be introduced and some cannot.

The NYPD MURDERED AN INNOCENT MAN AND SHOT UP HIS FRIENDS. Any justification is a lie. The why is their illusions at the time, which are adjusted to fit the court case, rather than the truth.

The only way we have to honor Sean Bell and others who have died at the hands of a mob (and the process is not limited to murdering people in the streets) is to stop this from happening again.

How?

People do what they think they can get away with.

When the police think that what they do can be recorded and broadcast, impacting on their future income, many will interact from their higher/better selves. People of the lie need to be able to lie without evidence. That's what's going on with the president and his band of gangsters. They had no idea about the impact of folks being able to run the images in slow motion and see the explosions at the WTC or realize there was no plane wreckage at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.

Like Celie told Nettie in THE COLOR PURPLE to write, let's continue to urge the people not only in Harlem, but in the world to record, document the truth, the only effective tool we have to be free.

When the police know that it is the citizens who are paying their salaries, not those in office today, they will have less fear of the people they are suppose to protect. When the police understand the importance of building up our youth, rather than tearing them down with guns and fear, they too will travel the streets as part of the highest good for all.

Finally, when I think of Sean Bell, my heart fills with tears for him, his family and friends, for there are few things more painful than "A Dream Deferred."

LYNCHING

Lynching is defined as mob execution, usually by hanging, without the benefit of trial and often accompanied with torture and body mutilation. The usual scenario included a mob of up to 5,000 White men attacking a single, defenseless Black man and executing him for a crime he was never convicted of or even charged with in most cases. Lynching is considered one of the most horrific chapters in African American history and is only exceeded by slavery in cruelty and savagery toward another human being.

Ironically, the term “lynch” is derived from the name of Charles Lynch, a Virginia planter and patriot during the American Revolution, who directed violence toward White British loyalists. After the Civil War and emancipation, lynching became almost synonymous with hanging and torturing African American males. Between 1882 and 1930 more than 3,300 Black male victims were hanged, burned alive, castrated, and mutilated by mostly southern White mobs who have never faced any charges for these criminal acts. Coroners and law officials typically attributed the murders to “parties unknown.” Most historians and sociologists agree that mob executions was really about social control and to maintain the status quo of White superiority and had little to due with crime control.

Ida B. Wells (1862-1931) could easily be called the mother of the anti-lynching movement. She was the first of eight children born to slave parents in Holly Springs, Mississippi. After emancipation, she attended several schools run by northern Methodist missionaries including Rust College. In 1879, after the yellow fever epidemic claimed the lives of both her parents, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee with the younger children and accepted a teaching position. Because of her great concern for racial injustice, Wells was invited to write for a local church paper. As her fame increased, she was asked to contribute to several Baptist newspapers. She eventually became editor and partner of the “Free Speech and Headlight” Baptist newspaper.
In 1892, the brutal lynching of three close friends in Memphis started Ida B. Wells on a militant, uncompromising, single-minded crusade against lynching from which she would never retreat. Her three friends committed the crime of opening a grocery store, which successfully competed with a White grocer directly across the street. For the crime of becoming too “uppity”, a large White mob took the three proprietors from their grocery store, tortured and killed them. Ms. Wells wrote angry editorials in her newspaper encouraging Blacks to leave Memphis if possible and to boycott White businesses, which left several White companies including the newly opened streetcar line on the verge of bankruptcy.

Ida B. Wells decided to launch her anti-lynching movement on several fronts. She first wanted to explode the myth that lynching was primarily to protect White women from rape by Black men. She published detailed statistics on lynching, which demonstrated that less than one-fifth of the victims of lynch mobs were even accused of rape by their killers. She said that racist southern White mobs “cry rape” to brand their victims as “moral monsters” and to place them “beyond the pale of human sympathy.” She wrote that while Southern White men raped Black women and children with impunity, they considered any liaison between a Black man and a White woman as involuntary by definition. She pointed out that children produced by White-Black relationships were called “mulatto” from the Spanish word for mule because racist Whites believed that mixed-race children, like the offspring of donkeys and horses, were an inferior breed that could not reproduce. When Ms. Wells suggested in print that White women were often willing participants with Black men, a large White mob destroyed the presses of her newspaper and would have killed her had she not been visiting friends in New York. Thomas Fortune invited her to stay in New York and write for the “New York Age”. She was also allowed to exchange the circulation list of the “Free Speech” for a one fourth interest in the “Age” and immediately began to write a series on lynching.

The second approach of Ida B. Wells in her anti-lynching movement was to appeal to the Christian conscience of powerful non-southern Whites. She published two pamphlets (“Southern Horror” in 1892 and “A Red Book” in 1895) in hopes that extensive statistical analyses of lynching would clearly point out that the southern rape fantasy was merely “an excuse to get rid of Negroes who were acquiring wealth and property.” She pointed out that the same lynch mob that killed a Nashville Black man accused of visiting a White woman left unharmed a White man convicted of raping an eight year old girl. Since Ms. Well’s viewed lynching as primarily an economic issue, she hoped that economic pressure from the “ruling-class Whites” could produce southern social change. She began a lecture tour in the Northeast in 1892 and in 1894 she lectured in England where she helped organize the British Anti-Lynching Society. Ms. Wells was able to effect a curtailment of British investment in the South by suggesting that this could influence American sentiment. In 1895, Ida B. Wells toured the northern and western states organizing American anti-lynching societies.

Ida B. Wells told African Americans that her analysis of mob violence suggested that it abated whenever Blacks exercised “manly self-defense.” In “Southern Horrors” she suggested, “a Winchester rifle should have a place of honor in every Black home.” She also told Blacks that they must retaliate with their economic power. She urged Blacks to boycott White businesses or to migrate to Oklahoma since Black labor was the industrial strength of the South. She said: “The more the Afro-American yields and cringes and begs, the more he has to do so, the more he is insulted, outraged, and lynched.”

Since Southern courts would not punish lynching participants, Ms. Wells lobbied for legislation that would make lynching a federal crime. In 1901, Ida B. Wells met with President William McKinley and pressed for his support with anti-lynching legislation. However, she could not get McKinley or Theodore Roosevelt to support an anti-lynching bill that was introduced in Congress in 1902. As one of the founding members of the NAACP in 1909, she made her anti-lynching campaign including anti-lynching legislation among the NAACP’s highest priorities. The NAACP investigated specific incidents and published national statistics on lynching in an attempt to sway public support to put a stop to lynching. In 1918, the NAACP was able to get Republican Congressman Leonidas Dyer to introduce a bill that subjected lynch mobs to a charge of capital murder for their actions. The Dyer Bill passed in the House of Representatives but failed in the Senate because southern Democrats never allowed the bill out of committee. Congressman Dyer re-introduced the bill each year for the next ten years, but it never again passed either house.
As a result of the life-long crusade of Ida B. Wells against lynching, she became the inspiration for organizations throughout the country that opposed lynching. For example, The American Civil Liberties Union, The Commission on Interracial Cooperation, and The Communist Party of the United States all played a role in the anti-lynching campaign. Ironically, White middle class Southern women for whom lynching was suppose to protect, formed the Jessie Daniel Ames Association of Southern Women for the Prevention of Lynching in 1930. In honor of her legacy, a low-income housing project in Chicago was named after Ida B. Wells in 1941; and in 1990, the U.S. Postal Service issued an Ida B. Wells commemorative stamp. The “militant,” “uncompromising,” “outspoken,” and “fearless” Ida B. Wells can surely look back upon her life as a genuine success in helping to end one of the most horrific chapters in African American history.

The $200 billion bail-out for predator banks and Spitzer charges are intimately linked

While New York Governor Eliot Spitzer was paying an "escort" $4,300 in a hotel room in Washington , just down the road, George Bush's new Federal Reserve Board Chairman, Ben Bernanke, was secretly handing over $200 billion in a tryst with mortgage bank industry speculators.

Both acts were wanton, wicked and lewd. But there's a BIG difference. The Governor was using his own checkbook. Bush's man Bernanke was using ours.

This week, Bernanke's Fed, for the first time in its history, loaned a selected coterie of banks one-fifth of a trillion dollars to guarantee these banks' mortgage-backed junk bonds. The deluge of public loot was an eye-popping windfall to the very banking predators who have brought two million families to the brink of foreclosure.

Up until Wednesday, there was one single, lonely politician who stood in the way of this creepy little assignation at the bankers' bordello: Eliot Spitzer.

Who are they kidding? Spitzer's lynching and the bankers' enriching are intimately tied.

How? Follow the money.

The press has swallowed Wall Street's line that millions of US families are about to lose their homes because they bought homes they couldn't afford or took loans too big for their wallets. Ba-LON-ey. That's blaming the victim.

Here's what happened. Since the Bush regime came to power, a new species of loan became the norm, the "sub-prime" mortgage and its variants including loans with teeny "introductory" interest rates. From out of nowhere, a company called "Countrywide" became America 's top mortgage lender, accounting for one in five home loans, a large chuck of these "sub-prime."

Here's how it worked: The Grinning Family, with US average household income, gets a $200,000 mortgage at 4% for two years. Their $955 a month payment is 25% of their income. No problem. Their banker promises them a new mortgage, again at the cheap rate, in two years. But in two years, the promise ain't worth a can of spam and the Grinnings are told to scram - because their house is now worth less than the mortgage. Now, the mortgage hits 9% or $1,609 plus fees to recover the "discount" they had for two years. Suddenly, payments equal 42% to 50% of pre-tax income. Grinnings move into their Toyota .

Now, what kind of American is "sub-prime." Guess. No peeking. Here's a hint: 73% of HIGH INCOME Black and Hispanic borrowers were given sub-prime loans versus 17% of similar-income Whites. Dark-skinned borrowers aren't stupid - they had no choice. They were "steered" as it's called in the mortgage sharking business.

"Steering," sub-prime loans with usurious kickers, fake inducements to over-borrow, called "fraudulent conveyance" or "predatory lending" under US law, were almost completely forbidden in the olden days (Clinton Administration and earlier) by federal regulators and state laws as nothing more than fancy loan-sharking.

But when the Bush regime took over, Countrywide and its banking brethren were told to party hardy - it was OK now to steer'm, fake'm, charge'm and take'm.

But there was this annoying party-pooper. The Attorney General of New York, Eliot Spitzer, who sued these guys to a fare-thee-well. Or tried to.

Instead of regulating the banks that had run amok, Bush's regulators went on the warpath against Spitzer and states attempting to stop predatory practices. Making an unprecedented use of the legal power of "federal pre-emption," Bush-bots ordered the states to NOT enforce their consumer protection laws.

Indeed, the feds actually filed a lawsuit to block Spitzer's investigation of ugly racial mortgage steering. Bush's banking buddies were especially steamed that Spitzer hammered bank practices across the nation using New York State laws.

Spitzer not only took on Countrywide, he took on their predatory enablers in the investment banking community. Behind Countrywide was the Mother Shark, its funder and now owner, Bank of America. Others joined the sharkfest: Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch and Citigroup's Citibank made mortgage usury their major profit centers. They did this through a bit of financial legerdemain called "securitization."

What that means is that they took a bunch of junk mortgages, like the Grinnings, loans about to go down the toilet and re-packaged them into "tranches" of bonds which were stamped "AAA" - top grade - by bond rating agencies. These gold-painted turds were sold as sparkling safe investments to US school district pension funds and town governments in Finland (really).

When the housing bubble burst and the paint flaked off, investors were left with the poop and the bankers were left with bonuses. Countrywide's top man, Angelo Mozilo, will "earn" a $77 million buy-out bonus this year on top of the $656 million - over half a billion dollars - he pulled in from 1998 through 2007.

But there were rumblings that the party would soon be over. Angry regulators, burned investors and the weight of millions of homes about to be boarded up were causing the sharks to sink. Countrywide's stock was down 50%, and Citigroup was off 38%, not pleasing to the Gulf sheiks who now control its biggest share blocks.

Then, on Wednesday of this week, the unthinkable happened. Carlyle Capital went bankrupt. Who? That's Carlyle as in Carlyle Group. James Baker, Senior Counsel. Notable partners, former and past: George Bush, the Bin Laden family and more dictators, potentates, pirates and presidents than you can count.

The Fed had to act. Bernanke opened the vault and dumped $200 billion on the poor little suffering bankers. They got the public treasure - and got to keep the Grinning's house. There was no "quid" of a foreclosure moratorium for the "pro quo" of public bail-out. Not one family was saved - but not one banker was left behind.

Every mortgage sharking operation shot up in value. Mozilo's Countrywide stock rose 17% in one day. The Citi sheiks saw their company's stock rise $10 billion in an afternoon.

And that very same day the bail-out was decided - what a coinkydink! - the man called, "The Sheriff of Wall Street" was cuffed. Spitzer was silenced.

Do I believe the banks called Justice and said, "Take him down today!" Naw, that's not how the system works. But the big players knew that unless Spitzer was taken out, he would create enough ruckus to spoil the party. Headlines in the financial press - one was "Wall Street Declares War on Spitzer" - made clear to Bush's enforcers at Justice who their number one target should be. And it wasn't Bin Laden.

It was the night of February 13 when Spitzer made the bone-headed choice to order take-out in his Washington Hotel room. He had just finished signing these words for the Washington Post about predatory loans:

"Not only did the Bush administration do nothing to protect consumers, it embarked on an aggressive and unprecedented campaign to prevent states from protecting their residents from the very problems to which he federal government was turning a blind eye."

Bush, said Spitzer right in the headline, was the "Predator Lenders' Partner in Crime." The President, said Spitzer, was a fugitive from justice. And Spitzer was in Washington to launch a campaign to take on the Bush regime and the biggest financial powers on the planet.

Spitzer wrote, "When history tells the story of the subprime lending crisis and recounts its devastating effects on the lives of so many innocent homeowners the Bush administration will not be judged favorably."

But now, the Administration can rest assured that this love story - of Bush and his bankers - will not be told by history at all - now that the Sheriff of Wall Street has fallen on his own gun.

A note on "Prosecutorial Indiscretion."

Back in the day when I was an investigator of racketeers for government, the federal prosecutor I was assisting was deciding whether to launch a case based on his negotiations for airtime with 60 Minutes. I'm not allowed to tell you the prosecutor's name, but I want to mention he was recently seen shouting, " Florida is Rudi country! Florida is Rudi country!"

Not all crimes lead to federal bust or even public exposure. It's up to something called "prosecutorial discretion."

Funny thing, this "discretion." For example, Senator David Vitter, Republican of Louisiana, paid Washington DC prostitutes to put him diapers (ewww!), yet the Senator was not exposed by the US prosecutors busting the pimp-ring that pampered him.

Naming and shaming and ruining Spitzer - rarely done in these cases - was made at the "discretion" of Bush's Justice Department.

Or maybe we should say, 'indiscretion.'

Weapon of mass distraction is an understatement. Only fools are shocked that the governor of New York is corrupt. How else could there be 80 precincts, some in Harlem, with zero votes for Obama in this year's primary election and nobody in government says anything.

Still Waiting for That First Black Governor

The article describing the opposition to the Bush Administration's nomination of William Lucas to head the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division errs in one respect (news story, May 10): You reported that ''Mr. Lucas, a Republican . . . would have become the nation's first black governor since Reconstruction had he won his 1986 campaign in Michigan.''

During Reconstruction, the decade between 1867 and 1877, the Federal Government, as a result of the passage of the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution and other civil rights legislation, took steps to enfranchise former slaves for their participation in the nation's electoral process.

Blacks sought elective offices in local, county, state and Federal Governments. Blacks were elected to important positions and served as lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state auditor, speaker of the house, justice of the state supreme court, state superintendent of education and state senators and representatives by the hundreds. Between 1870, when Joseph H. Rainey was elected to the 41st Congress from South Carolina, and 1901, when George H. White, a North Carolina attorney, ended his second term in the 50th House, 22 black men served in the Congress.

But no black has ever been elected to a state governership in the en-tire history of the United States.

During Reconstruction, one black man came close. P. B. S. Pinchback was elected lieutenant governor of Louisiana in 1872 and served as acting governor when Gov. Henry Warmouth was debarred from his office during impeachment proceedings. Pinchback aspired to the governorship and had a chance at the nomination as the Republican Party split into two conventions. But instead the Legislature elected Pinchback to the United States Senate. In the Harlem district, for instance, where the primary night returns suggested a 141 to 0 sweep by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, the vote now stands at 261 to 136. In an even more heavily black district in Brooklyn — where the vote on primary night was recorded as 118 to 0 for Mrs. Clinton — she now barely leads, 118 to 116.

The history of New York elections has been punctuated by episodes of confusion, incompetence and even occasional corruption. And election officials and lawyers for both Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton agree that it is not uncommon for mistakes to be made by weary inspectors rushing on election night to transcribe columns of numbers that are delivered first to the police and then to the news media.

That said, in a presidential campaign in which every vote at the Democratic National Convention may count, a swing of even a couple of hundred votes in New York might help Mr. Obama gain a few additional delegates.

City election officials said they were convinced that there was nothing sinister to account for the inaccurate initial counts, and The Times's review found a handful of election districts in the city where Mrs. Clinton received zero votes in the initial results.

"It looked like a lot of the numbers were wrong, probably the result of human error," said Marcus Cederqvist, who was named executive director of the Board of Elections last month. He said such discrepancies between the unofficial and final count rarely affected the raw vote outcome because "they're not usually that big."

On primary night, Mrs. Clinton was leading with 57 percent to Mr. Obama's 40 percent in New York State, which meant she stood to win 139 delegates to Mr. Obama's 93, with 49 others known as superdelegates going to the national convention unaffiliated.

Jerome A. Koenig, a former chief of staff to the State Assembly's election law committee and a lawyer for the Obama campaign, suggested that some of the discrepancy resulted from the design of the ballot.

Candidates were listed from left to right in an order selected by drawing lots. Mrs. Clinton was first, followed by Gov. Bill Richardson and Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., who in most election districts received zero votes, and by John Edwards, who got relatively few. Mr. Obama was fifth, just before Representative Dennis J. Kucinich.

Mr. Koenig said he seriously doubted that anything underhanded was at work because local politicians care more about elections that matter specifically to them.

"They steal votes for elections like Assembly District leader, where people have a personal stake," he said.

A number of political leaders also scoffed at the possibility that local politicians, even if they considered it vital that Mr. Obama or Mrs. Clinton prevail in the primary, were capable of even trying to hijack such a contest.

Still, for those inclined to consider conspiracy theories, the figures provided plenty of grist.

The 94th Election District in Harlem, for instance, sits within the Congressional district represented by Charles B. Rangel, an original supporter of Mrs. Clinton.

Assemblyman Keith L. T. Wright, a Clinton supporter who represents the same area, said he was confident that there was an innocent explanation for the original count giving Mr. Obama zero votes.

"I'm sure it's a clerical error of some sort," Mr. Wright said. "Being around elections for the last 25 years, no candidate receives zero votes."

But Gordon J. Davis, a former New York City parks commissioner and an Obama poll watcher in the district, remained skeptical, even after being informed of the corrected count.

"First it was reported at 141 to 0, now it's 261 to 136 in an Assembly district that went 12,000 to 8,000 for Barack," Mr. Davis said on Friday.

"I was watching like a hawk, but how did I know the machine had a mind of its own?" he added. "And I speak as one who grew up on the South Side of Chicago where we delivered the margin of victory for John F. Kennedy at 4 in the morning."

At the sprawling Riverside Park Community apartments at Broadway and 135th Street, Alician D. Barksdale said she had voted for Mr. Obama and her daughter had, too, by absentee ballot.

"Everyone around here voted for him," she said.

The 53rd Assembly District, in Brooklyn, is represented by the borough's Democratic chairman, Assemblyman Vito P. Lopez, another Clinton supporter. He said the party faithful have produced lopsided margins of as much as 160 to 4 and that on Primary Day he fielded election captains in every district to galvanize Hispanic voters for Mrs. Clinton.

"We ran it the old-fashioned way," he said. Still, he said, the 118 to 0 vote "has to be a mistake."

At the Archive, a cafe and video store on the border of Bushwick and East Williamsburg, the manager, Brad Lee, agreed. "There were Obama posters in everyone's windows," he said. "There was even Obama graffiti."

Most election-night anomalies are later reconciled by the official canvass of the machines and in the formal count of absentee returns and of paper affidavit ballots issued on Primary Day, to people who do not appear to be eligible but demand the right to vote, and later validated.

On Feb. 5, Mrs. Clinton carried 61 of the state's 62 counties but won Brooklyn by a margin of less than 2 percent. Because delegates are awarded proportionately on the basis of the primary vote in each Congressional district, Obama supporters expressed hope that if the official count continued in their favor, they might gain an additional delegate or two.

Surprise, another stolen election in Harlem.

When I was working with Albert Davis who ran against Charles Rangel in the 90's, I truly believed we had the confidence of the people from street campaigning. Folks in Harlem were tired of being sold out, endangered and flat out lied to by the Wrangler and his crew of poverty pimps.

During the street fight level campaign, Albert and his friend Erling Rohde had rigged up the top of a van that we stood on with a bullhorn going up, down and across the streets of Harlem talking about the horrors of Harlem under the Wrangler's rule. It was rickety and our prayers were answered that nobody fell off or that we were right that the police don't care about the safety of the people, only getting paid.

What we heard back was a cry from the people who were/are tired of being scammed.

Riverbank State Park still has children exercising and playing over an open sewer, North River. Harlem, much of which is below sea level with open ends at either river, is unprotected when the ice caps melt and the ocean rises.

Without Harlem's poverty pimps electing themselves over and over again, they would have spoken out about AIDS, crack, lack of computerization, environmental and economic problems, job and small business opportunities unlike the Clinton/Rangel disempowerment zones of the '90's. The list is long of the harmful results of stolen elections in Harlem.

The dead have been outvoting the living in Harlem since at least the Wrangler stole the congressional seat from Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Kitchen table petitions, broken machines, thrown out votes, data entry folks hired based on political affiliation rather than can they type - disqualifying voters at the polls, the list is long of the examples of the rape of the American vote, especially in Harlem. When Albert pulled together a team of citizens to audit the Board of Elections they ended up shutting down the machines we found so many typographical errors in their computers compared to the voter registration cards.

The media was silent when we shared our results with them. Like now, with the exception of the then new NY1, the media blackout on alternative candidates held.

Harlem is full of poverty pimps who need poverty to pimp to keep their jobs. Hillary Clinton understands this and enjoys the support of Harlem's "elected and appointed officials."

and other places that say the people who want change want the industrial/military/congressional complex candidates, Clinton and McCain, let's me know that a stolen election is a stolen election, be it Harlem, New Hampshire, Ohio, etc.

The question is how to clean it up in time for the general election. From what I see, no matter how many votes are stolen now, they can't stuff the ballot boxes fast enough to turn this situation around in their favor.

1. We need to give the vote the value of a dollar and track it down to the penny. Verification of how a person voted should be available for the citizen to access to assure the accuracy of their votes should be traceable at up to 100 points from the vote to who got credit for it.

2. Hire competent people at the various Board of Elections who can accurately type the information from a voter's reg card to the system. Use a two typist system plus scan if necessary to cross check the accuracy.

3. Make on line voting available like absentee ballots for everyone. Do a video vote back-up and upload it if needed. A vote is worth more than a dollar and if the web has the free space to show a dog pissing, it can hold a voters vote.

4. Like picture booths, receipts at the election polling places can be printed out like photos at an arcade.

5. Audit past elections and remove folks who did not win in reality, like Congressman Charles Rangel, who, based on this report of NO ballots for Obama in Harlem, just got caught with his hands in the cookie jar. President Bush didn't win the last two elections either.

Without integrity in voting, we have no democracy.

One man one vote. Anything else is just more BS.

Under Congressman Rangel, Harlem lost her hope. He was in charge when the CIA targeted the best and the brightest under Iran Contra and let crack raid the streets of Harlem, where there are no poppy fields. His silence was the ticket needed to infect the population with hopelessness.

Despite his note to you that reveals that in 2007 he was not yet computer literate, he is making no positive economic, educational and politcal contibutions to anything other than himself and those he serves. Harlem is rotting under his leadership and the poverty pimps he has set up to take over, have no grander plans than he. Their concept of a good idea is to build more tall buildings on the earthquake fault line known as 125th Street, below sea level at the beginning of global warming, rather than build sea walls for the projected ocean level rising. I've asked this question about Congressman Charles Rangel before and now I have to ask it about Bill Clinton too. Both men are leaders in Harlem and neither seems to have a clue about what's really going on.

Is it the air from the 5 open sewers around Harlem* that is causing them to live in illusion rather than deal with the real issues of life like cancer rates, cloned foods - dirty water, failing highway system, global warming, economic and political corruption, war, educational crisis, doomed social security system, etc. Or is it just greed and ego?

Their participation in a system that has legislated us to death is legendary and shameful. Yet stolen election after stolen election, like what happened in the New Hampshire primary in January, 2008 is still the order of the day.

These men stay in power while America is on her death bed, guilty of torture, murder and pollution under their leadership, current and past. Global warming is in process and America's coastal cities are just waiting for something to happen, rather than take a pro-active stand.

Congressman Rangel, rather than just legalize hemp and tax it at 20%, has a tax plan that's difficult to understand, adding more stress to daily life. Rather than shift to hemp biofuel for energy, he supports the draft. War is not the answer my brother Charles. It's like he wants all of America to be like the disempowerment zone he created in the 90's in Harlem.

But Congressman Rangel has been out done by Bill Clinton who still says that 9/11 happened because of Osama bin Laden and 19 folks from Saudi Arabia.

See, the problem with being senile, or flat out telling a lie, is that it's tough to remember the details when called upon.

Call me what you want, but the truth is the truth. WTC 1, 2 and 7 did not fall down, burn up nor were knocked over. The flames did not get hot enough to do that. All recorded sound is of explosions, not falling. Material was pulverized, not crushed.

The Mayor was paid in a software contract with Homeland Security. The owner of the buildings was paid in a large insurance settlement.

When the head of the EPA lied and said there was no danger in the dust from the exploded buildings, neither Charles Rangel, Bill Clinton nor his wife Senator Hillary Clinton said a word about the danger in public. They just all led us in a process of national prayer for the victims, without saying that the victims were not limited to that day.

I'm an old woman in the middle of the Mohave Desert and I was screaming to get those people out of there. I was told they couldn't leave because the city was on lock down. If any one of them had said anything, the people in Manhattan could have been spared days of exposure to the toxic dust.

So I ask, are they senile? It takes senility or worse to believe that a dialysis patient with 19 friends picked the right moment when the military was on a scheduled exercise to run the story the way it went. They were even smart enough to fly a plane with pinpoint accuracy into the Pentagon and not leave a trace of the plane on the grounds.

Look you yourself and research "9/11 Truth", or "9/11 was an inside job".

Here's the information on the 5 sewers. I left Harlem in 1998 after I went to North River and Ward's Island sewers and saw how little attention was being paid to the process and the danger it posed to the community.

When I met with Congressman Rangel at a 'disempowerment zone' meeting to talk about this and other environmental issues his eyes glazed over. From what I read on the web, though they put in machines to control the funk at North River, the dangers of air borne mutating virus and voc's are still there.

One of the reasons I did not return to Harlem in '98 was after walking under Riverbank State Park for the second time, I was clear that I did not want to live breathing in sewer air.

I heard the smell problem is gone, which got me worried. I hope they did not just add more chemicals to the process, which the people will be breathing.

Politics and common sense need to merge in Harlem. Her best park, Riverbank State Park, is located over the North River plant and has people, among them children and seniors, exercising over an open sewer…not healthy.

The NYC EPA says “The roof of the building is the home of Riverbank State Park, a popular recreational facility with three swimming pools, an amphitheater, an athletic center, a skating rink, a restaurant and sports fields - and, of the two New York State park facilities in the City, the only one built on top of a water pollution control plant.” It’s won many awards while placing Harlem residents in danger of toxic chemicals, methane gas and mutating germs.

Established Harlem leadership had decided to put a Hudson River mall just south of the sewer.

Don't they think that the funk from the sewer may affect the quality of the meal or are they confident in the new equipment?

Environmentalists are being honored in Harlem who keep the conversation about odor and flow rather than toxins and germs coming off the sewers.

Sick people from all over the world come to New York City to benefit from her extraordinary medical system. Though hospital waste is handled separately from the general sewer system, during the time before sick people check into the hospital, and, if they remain in the city, after they leave, they are using the general sewer facilities.

In this time of terrorism, toxic materials (both medical and chemical that could cause illness and death) can be dropped into the sewer system and a large portion of the population could be impacted days after the event.

Floating material http://www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/dep/html/float.html could contain harmful elements and the results, devastating. This is because many, if not all of the NYC sewer plants, are not covered and in some cases could be easily contaminated from street or building levels without the culprit being noticed.

At North River, the large windows by the tanks are open. At Ward’s Island, the tanks are outside. Though we are encouraged to take comfort in the fact that chlorine kills 85-95% of the germs in the sewer, the more relevant question is what is in the other 5-15% that is strong enough to survive chlorine, food additives, genetically altered foods, human growth hormone, antibiotics, etc. Consider what happens when those strong germs and toxic chemicals get together in North River’s secondary tanks, with their steam wafting off the tanks next to open windows.

The additional chlorine put into the environment via tap water and flushed into the river can have a seepage effect on the land it comes in contact with, further empowering mutating bacteria.

The water in North River’s secondary tanks frequently has steam coming off them, which lifts some germs and they become air borne. Harlem's infant morality rate in the year after the North River Plant went into operation was 2.5 times higher than the rest of the City. Yet the discussion is limited to odor and flow, which haven’t killed anybody.

When you connect the dots between when the North River plant was open and rises and falls in her infant mortality rates over the years, you’ll see a direct correlation.

I failed at getting the people in charge to see the direct connection between actions taken at the sewer and the area's infant mortality rate.

I see a radical jump in the infant mortality rate the year the plant was built, a higher than normal rate during the early years of the plants operation, a drop in 1991, the year they covered the primary tanks. There was another radical jump the year there was a reported crack in the tank (I don't know if it was a crack in the tank or the cover, but it resulted in a higher release of toxins into the area.) Public information after that point was not longer available at community meetings between '93 and '98, when I left.

What needs to happen to correct the problem?

First, the windows need to be covered or at least the tanks sealed, like what was in the original plans. Hemp makes a good bullet proof plastic out of Hemp Stone that could be a cost effective solution. The glass needs to be bullet proof because the sewer is next to the river, which is an estuary, at the edge of the ocean, at the beginning of global warming. The plant is just above the river level and subject to danger in case of a radical tidal wave.

“The problem with covering and air treating the secondary tanks is one of expense … NYCDEP’s rough estimate for subjecting the secondary tanks in a similar odor control system as that for the primary tank is in excess of $100 million.” From “The Smell of Success? We need to honestly evaluate the situation at hand. Consider using sealed aircraft aluminum covers for the secondary tanks and using a NYC labor pool, featuring Harlem residents trained for the job.

Community residents will be motivated to do a good job because they and their families are breathing the air.

Second, regular testing of the sewer's contents and airborne materials need to be done and the results published. The people have a right to know what's in the air, water and land. As we remove or control the cause of the problem, the effects, what we experience as reality, will diminish like what happened in 1991 when the primary tanks were covered.

They're kidding right about the problem being the toxic trucks?

It is not the truckers who should be fined. It is the fools in charge who had created a toxic environment and are trying to blame the working people for the problem. If these are the folks making deliveries in this underserved area, what message is that sending?

If we had been using hemp biofuel or magnetic energy, there would be no air pollution from trucks. Our government has made clean burning hemp biofuel illegal and starved Bruce DePalma's invention, the N Machine that works with a Faraday Motor to create clean, free, sustainable energy. Instead they keep us on toxic energy and decide which will be the next war project.

I left Harlem screaming in '98 because the poverty pimps, no matter how many times I spoke with them, how many street corners I stood on for hours at a time giving out flyers, or rallies at Riverside Park, the leadership was/is stuck on stupid, evil or both if they are blaming the truckers for Harlem's asthma problem.

They would take their own families to Riverbank Park to swim on top of an open sewer because it was politically correct to support the best park in Harlem. It was like the movie JAWS beach scene on the 4th of July weekend.

Federal, state and city policy has legislated Harlemites to death, literally.

At Riverbank, they have added a new $55 million air treatment process that removes the odors. Does it remove or empower the toxins?

2. Harlem is surrounded by high traffic highways on 3 of 4 sides.

3. The Harlem valley is a sink for a lot of the toxins in the area.

6. World Trade Center dust was not cleaned up in Manhattan anywhere but in the hole. That toxic dust has to be impacting by now since the incubation time is 5-15 years, though the first person to die from WTC Illness passed in February, 2002.

People do what they think they can get away with and the police have gotten away with killing innocent people for almost a hundred years in Harlem.

Technology is a great way to use the healing power of truth.

By now there should be more than enough cameras in Harlem to shoot video of the police and their customers 24/7.

That's got to have a positive impact on crime reduction both from the criminals and the police standpoint.

There is a reason they can't answer questions. There are design problems in the police rotation system that needs to be fixed. There are better ways to flush out corruption than break community bonds for a schedule.

The US Senator representing Harlem, New York is running for president. I remember when she came on the scene in the early 90's talking about fixing the health care system and making children/education a priority.

I could be wrong and am researching additional information. Yet Senator Clinton's loyalty seems to have an Industrial (pro big medicine and industry) – Military (pro war against people who havenever hurt us) – Congressional complex base going way back.

Here's some of my concerns with Senator Clinton:

EDUCATION

Though I'm sure she's pro education, when the Clinton family came to Washington they were faced with upgrading the public school system in Washington D.C. or sending their daughter to private school. Guess which won.

Even though she didn't send her daughter to public school, what did she do to champion public schools who were not worthy of Chelsea? As the current Senator representing Harlem too, how have the public schools improved since she became senator? I've always found it strange that the strongest building in Harlem is not a school where the children are kept, but the police station.

Based on results, what Senator Clinton did was not sufficient for the problem of education, though she had access to the resources.

Like Harlem, the Washington DC's inner city schools are still in trouble.

where the word computer is not mentioned. They are still talking about teaching children out of text books when everybody knows thatebooks can offer a greater variety of learning material than printed books, and at least pre-K-14 - national standard (Massachusetts) -should be on line for free.

It's like we're training inner city youth for careers in radio tubes at the dawn of the computer chip. It's tough to find a computer super store in the inner city. STAPLES, bless their hearts, is a stationary store, not a computer super store.

Talk about second hand information in the information age.

If then First Lady Clinton had just acted regarding computerization in the Information Age (like Lady Bird Johnson did regarding the environment in the 1960's with her Keep America Beautiful program), and told her husband (or brokered herself) to make a deal with corporations to donate older computers to local schools for a tax deduction, the problem would have been solved.

I still suspect that some of the thugs we have running the streets today would better interact with the rest of society if they spent more of their time at a computer screen where they could vent their rage in a safer environment. It's tough to have a gun and a keyboard going at the same time, though I admit, not impossible.

HEALTH CARE - HEALTH SOLUTIONS

When Senator Clinton's husband had to have his heart operation just before the last presidential election, she expressed gratitude for their health care package. I wonder if any children died during that time as a result of not having or not having enough health care. Would she know their names? In this case Senator Clinton accepted the privilege extended to her family while tens of millions go uninsured every day. What a racket!

Maybe I missed her standing up to EPA's Whitman on 9/13/01 and saying the air WAS NOT safe to breathe, nor the water safe to drink, nor the building materials with the exploded bodies, asbestos, benzene and other toxic chemicals NOT able to be effectively cleaned. Asbestos does not clean out of fabric.

When the news was released about the breach in trust, THAT THE WHITE HOUSE TOLD THE EPA TO ALTER THE SAFETY REPORT, AND THEY COMPLIED, coordinated with a big power black out, I expected her in the White House parking lot ready to kick ass because people in her state had their lives ripped from them based on a lie.

I probably missed the story where she is suing the federal government for altering the WTC toxins safety report on behalf of those exposed. She's a lawyer,right? How much is she going for?

ALL EXPOSED TO WTC TOXINS SHOULD BE GETTING REPARATIONS AND HEALTH SUPPORT CHECKS, BIG ONES, NOW. Finance it with a recreational hemp tax if there is no money left from the war.

It was government negligence that put the city on lock down and lied about the test results. For years they denied there was even a problem.

Senator Clinton was in a position of power on 9/11. What's her position on 9/11 as an inside job? Has she said anything constructive on the issue or is she still talking that Osama bull shit?

Over the last few years Senator Clinton started to shift on the World Trade Center issue, but it's too little too late. The time to deal with it was at the beginning.

SENATOR CLINTON, YOU ARE NO HARRIET TUBMAN

Harriet Tubman never lost a passenger on her train runs. Nope. Not never. She put the Lord first. Tubman put her life on the line to fight for those in her care.

Harriet Tubman was a war nurse and a military general in the Civil War, not a spectator in the hospital seeing what a nurse does all day. Did Senator Clinton clean out any bed pans or wipe up any puke during her recent photo op?

If not, I don't know how she can say she took the tour to understand a day in the life of a nurse.

When Sen. Clinton announced with pride about how she worked to award Harriet Tubman $10,000 in back military pay, about 90 years after Tubman's death, it seemed like a joke at first, then an insult.

Is that what The General was worth? Tubman was of greater value on the auction block, though not to herself or her people.

In retrospect, if Harriet Tubman, with all she did, was only worth $10,000......

If we are to grow as a nation, we must restore sanity to government and stop making the same stupid mistakes, putting the same selfish families in office again, and again, and possibly again.

I'm voting for the department of peace, no more torture for people or cruelty to animals, hemp legalization, restoring the Bill of Rights, common sense economics, repairing the damage this country has done, health solutions at both the cause and effect levels, empowering computerization, and a government managed from a uniting spirit, with the highest good for all concerned as its guiding principle.

I am voting Kucinich in '08.

World Trade Center Illness Manifested

"Felicia Dunn Jones, shown here in a 1991 photo with her family, has been declared the 2,750th victim of the World Trade Center bombing."

"A woman who was enveloped in toxic dust from the World Trade Center on 9/11 was declared the 2,750th victim of the terror attack yesterday - after the city medical examiner did an about-face and linked the noxious plume to her illness.

The reversal means Felicia Dunn-Jones, a civil rights attorney from Staten Island who died five months after 9/11, will be (was) recognized at the World Trade Center Memorial.

It also opens the door for the families of others who fell mortally ill after contact with Ground Zero dust to demand they be included on the list of victims and at the memorial.

"I would hope they would review all the police who got sick, including my son, and put their names on the memorial," said Joseph Zadroga, father of NYPD Detective James Zadroga, who died of lung disease last year. "They belong there just like her."

Today her name was added to the list of those who died as a result of exposure to World Trade Center dust. She is not the only one as the list of folks who have died from WTC dust is unknown.

What we are now calling “World Trade Center Illness” (or syndrome or cough) - sickness that results from exposure to the toxic dust of the WTC - can manifest as squamous cell cancer (SCC) or mesothelioma asbestos lung or stomach CANCER and other diseases resulting from the toxic synergy resting from exposure to many known toxic substances.

Get ready to heal a whole new crop of diseases.

Most of what I've looked at over the years has been information on known cancers from exposure to the chemicals on the list of toxins.

Both cancers, squamous and mesothelioma, result from chronic chemical, petroleum by-products or asbestos exposure. Exposure increases risk, and folks have been exposed to large quantities of toxic material for years now.

We have to stop pretending not to know. Since September 11, 2001, folks in parts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have been breathing, eating and drinking the dust from the World Trade Center.

The toxic soup contained transformer oil contaminated with PCB's, polyvinyl, chloride, copper, furans, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, dioxins, asbestos, mercury from the computers and lights, thousands of gallons of jet fuel, and what the National Resources Defense Council - NRDC also defined as “small hazardous waste generating entities.” Add to that an estimated 50,000 personal computers with four pounds of lead each, pulverized, and that is 200,000 pounds of lead released into the atmosphere.

I'm still researching.

Chronic asbestos and petroleum by-products’ exposure can cause cancer.

Folks have been exposed to known carcinogens, and we need to deal with this situation now.

People in New York were told “We need you strong.” Rather than evacuate the area, the city was put on lock down, and the EPA report was manipulated by the White House to reflect minimal danger in the dust. There was no choice but to consume the toxins.

From WTC Volunteer Albert Davis’ book (As told to Terri Suess ) on his experience, GETTING TO GROUND ZERO:

“The bottom line was there was a shortage of masks. I was able to get one box of matching masks and filters and delivered them to where they were needed, near the “Hole”.

They were gone in an instant.

I thought of asking rescue workers for their masks when they came out of the site to take a break so the next rescue worker could use it. No one else thought that idea would work so I abandoned it.”

Here’s more supporting documentation for my concerns.

SQUAMOUS CELL CANCER Health Central reports about SCC: “Other risks include genetic predisposition… chemical pollution, and overexposure to X-rays or other forms of radiation.”

From Skincancer.org “Squamous cell carcinomas may also occur where skin has suffered certain kinds of injury: burns, scars, long-standing sores, sites previously exposed to X-rays or certain chemicals (such as arsenic and petroleum by-products).”

SCC can happen internally due to breathing petroleum by-products. I am dealing with this on a personal level now, which is the catalyst for these observations.

My mother-in-love, Edith Akuna, 69, worked for General Motors in Van Nuys, CA in the 1980’s. Her job on the finishing line was to put the stickers on new cars, approving the engine worked. She also pumped gas into the cars for part of her time there. To do her job, Edith breathed the chemicals off the new, 'starting for the first time' cars for years. After developing respiratory problems, she was put on complete disability about 12 years ago. Edith, who was otherwise healthy, died of SCC, the kind that results from chemical exposure.

SCC is usually a skin cancer. Because she breathed the chemicals, the SCC was on her internal organs. She had a mass that went from the top of her neck down her right lung, a second tumor lower on her lungs and one on each kidney.

As the doctors were explaining the nature of squamous cell cancer I thought, ‘chemicals, like what the folks consumed on 9/11?' I made the connection between WTC Illness and SCC because the transformer oil and the thousands of gallons of jet fuel, plus the pulverized plastics (petroleum by-products and other chemicals) are what folks in at least part of the tri state area have been consuming, like Edith did at her job.

We know based on Edith's job description and interviews with co-workers that petroleum by-products are on the list. Of course they have not released the list. They said they'll get back to her son. That was two years ago.

The problem of WTC Illness is not just SCC.

MESOTHELIOMA ASBESTOS LUNG & STOMACH CANCER

Another dangerous element from the dust is the asbestos. Asbestos inhalation increases ones risk for Mesothelioma Asbestos Lung Cancer.

There was, as estimated by the NRDC, between 300-400 tons of asbestos released into the air, pulverized, when the buildings fell. From the mesothelioma-net.org site:“ Pleural mesothelioma or cancer of the lung lining is the most common form of mesothelioma cancer. Peritoneal mesothelioma is stomach lining cancer and is the next most common form of mesothelioma.”

From U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, Agency Fact Sheet - September 13, 2001;

“Asbestos fibers are found in nature and float easily.

Nearly everyone is exposed to asbestos at some time in their lives. It becomes a health concern when asbestos fibers are breathed in at high concentrations over a long time period. As a person’s exposure to fibers increases, either by breathing more fibers or by breathing fibers for a longer time, that person’s risk of disease also increases. It can take anywhere from 10 to 40 years for someone to develop a specific illness after their exposure. Disease is very unlikely to result from a single, high-level exposure, or from a short period of exposure to lower levels.”

But the asbestos was blown into buildings, into fabrics that people interact with, and though the WTC area has been cleaned up, much of the surrounding area has not and the dusty material was transported in open trucks.

More from the CDC on September 13, 2001. “What are some things that can be done to limit exposure? For the general public, the further an individual is from the site of dust generation, the less exposure there will be to high levels of asbestos. The best advice is to avoid or limit dust exposure as much as possible.”

People were told that the dust was limited to lower Manhattan. That was just not true. Paper was found from the WTC as far east as Long Island. If a piece of paper could travel that far, imagine how far the dust traveled, based on prevailing winds.”

CONCLUSION George Carlin told a joke about how what use to be called “shell shock” is now “post traumatic stress disorder.” His point was adding more words to describe a situation is not always a good thing. We need to call the next phase of world trade center illness what it is - C A N C E R or toxic synergy.

Regular cancer screening and treatment needs to be available at no cost for all exposed.

Research needs to be done on how to effectively deal with these cancers. Consider “Sharks Don't Get Cancer : How Shark Cartilage Could Save Your Life” by William I. Lane and Linda Comac.

Also look at hydrotherapy, medical marijuana, stress reduction and the need for a healthy diet.

In the 90's I tried to tell Harlem's lack of leadership, guided by Congressman Rangel, that she was at the edge of the ocean at the beginning of global warming and we needed to build water walls or some way to manage a surge from the ocean. I was one of many ignored, inconvenient truths.

Fast forward 20 years. I thank the mayor for having an evacuation plan. I hope it works.

To see the danger you are in, in the event of a "freak" storm surge off the ocean, to go google earth and search for Harlem, New York (it's true for New York City too). At the bottom of the view is the sea level, posted for the area. Some parts of Harlem and the Upper East Side are as low as 10' above sea level. So you know what a real wave up the rivers will do.

"Our thoughts create our reality."

I've always thought that I want to be 100 years old when I grow up.

I'm going for 100 plus and I'm more than half way there, with The Lord's Grace. It doesn't matter if I die now or reach my goal because there are such wonderful moments in the mix.

Mindset seems to be important to longevity. Not the absolute, which is the Lord. But an influence.

I was teaching folks in Harlem how to use a computer when Tupac was murdered. Tupac was known for "knowing" he was going to die at 25. Many of the young people at the time shared with me that they also held that feeling.

I had classes of seniors from the A. Philip Randolph Senior Center and Minisink Townhouse and after school classes of young people at Minisink. So I told the seniors, who had clearly mastered basic survival skills by being here, what was going on with the children and asked what advice I could give the young people who don't think they would make it past 25.

The seniors unanimously agreed that the first step in getting old is seeing yourself old. Don't allow death/fear thoughts to get in the way of living.

Bryant Gumbel when he first went on the Today Show interviewed a man who was 113 years old. Bryant asked him how did he get to be 113. The man said there were only 3 things that he could think of that he did. Prayed every day. Made sure he went to bed every night and made sure he woke up every morning. He told Bryant that if he would do just those three things on that schedule, Bryant would look up an be 113 one day too. That prescription reads to me like "the divine plan for mortal survival."

Age is an illusion. We've got life, now, in this form.

"“What’s unlimited is that you can be an advocate,” she said."

Virginia M. Montague is an inspiration and further proof that the elections in Harlem must be rigged, with the dead sometimes outvoting the living. She is an extraordinary innovator, a true Harlem Hero who has consistently put the good of the community ahead of her own interests.

"Since Montague came to New York in the 1970s from North Carolina, she has been active in working with the city’s at-risk populations. She was a caseworker in the welfare system and later became a probation officer before embarking on a Pennsylvania program that sought to help released prisoners find jobs.

“Most of the young people coming out of jail didn’t have any skills at all,” she said of that experience. “We tried to place them, but they didn’t have the discipline or mental skills to succeed in a job environment.”

In part, Montague attributed her decision to run a third time to an observation that many areas of the district are experiencing economic and social stagnation.

Since 1997, “the conditions I see in my community haven’t changed,” she said.

Montague talked about improving constituent service as a way of jump-starting social progress and bringing fringe areas more fully into the district."

I hope she writes a book on the importance of having elected and appointed officials who actually care about the community, like she does. What the elected folks have allowed to happen in Harlem post dis-empowerment zone era (1997) is a shame before God.

Harlem stands at the beginning of Global Warming, unprotected, below sea level, with elected officials who did nothing to build dikes or water walls to protect 125th Street in the event of a rise in the sea level. They were warned and did nothing.

To understand, in the spring from either end of 125th Street you can see the river elevated. It's a thin line to flood the valley, Central Harlem.

Instead, some of the elected and appointed officials propose a restaurant/mall down wind from the stinking, uncovered sewer tanks at North River, lying under Riverbank State Park, where people come to exercise and play.

If Montague had been elected to City Council in 1997, the whole future of New York would have been radically better. Her hope chest is full with constructive possibilities. Her political commitment is to the Lord's Highest Good For All Concerned. I can't imagine her as a cut throat politician, what I'm told it takes to succeed. I hope she runs until she wins again, and again, and again.

I pray the rest of Harlem is as proud of Virginia M. Montague as I am, and will, like in the production THE WIZ, throw off Evillene and dance in the light of healing ideas Montague and other positive community folks are trying to implement to make our lives, and that of future generations, better.

Thank you Virginia Montague and all the other Harlem Heroes fighting to make this world a better place.

Is Congressman Rangel Senile?

I mean no disrespect in my question but the man makes no sense. 9/11, global warming, racism, failing educational system, government corruption, loss of freedom, war, etc. are issues that need to be addressed through the House Ways and Means Committee, which he chairs.

I ask because the Congressman Charles Rangel continues to propose totally unworkable solutions to problems, like reinstituting the draft.

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Rep. Charles Rangel introduced a bill in Congress to reinstate the military draft, saying fighting forces should more closely reflect the economic makeup of the nation. " Wednesday, January 8, 2003

War is an ineffective solution and yet, he continues to advocate it as a strategy. Could it be Mad Cow? Just dumb?

When I first sat down to write this piece I thought I was the only one who thinks that the forever evil congressman has turned senile (when crack and AIDS came to Harlem he did NOTHING effective, if anything). A Yahoo web search returned the results "...about 382 for "Charles Rangel" "senile"

I don't think the man ever got elected...just another in a series of stolen elections. Kitchen table petitioning, voter fraud, corruption so thick that a McDonalds opened in Harlem Hospital, and the eternal cycle of money and programs in place before elections, snatched away within a week of the election, stand as testimony.

Just look at how he took Harlem from the land of hope and dreams in the 70's that Congressman Adam Clayton Powell helped create, to the depths of despair, doing his best to keep Harlem out of the Information Age.

Harlem under his watch has became an environmental disaster area.

I told Congressman Rangel in the mid 90's that in between 10-15 years global warming would kick in. I explained that Harlem needed to build water walls at either end of 125th street, because when the ocean rises, since 125th street is below sea level, it could flood and a lot of life and property could be lost. Did he even care? No! His eyes just glazed over like he didn't have a clue what I was talking about, even though I had a topographical map that demonstrated what I was talking about.

Harlem is infested with industrial age thinking in the information age. The congressman is at the helm of stupidity.

For example. Industrial age thinking says it's fine for folks to starve and freeze if they can't afford food or fuel. No problem, just the American way.

Charles Rangel dissed Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez who is giving oil to poor folks in America who can't afford traditional heating bills. The congressman is an embarassment.

"Congressman Charles B. Rangel was the principal author of the five billion-dollar Federal Empowerment Zone and Enterprise Community demonstration project to revitalize urban neighborhoods throughout America. "

This author of the dis-empowerment zone trashed many good souls working in the 90's to make Harlem a better place, build our businesses and give back to the community.

Given what Congressman Rangel has done for Harlem, and what he is proposing for our young people, it's foolish to think that he would not do the same to the rest of America.

IT'S TIME TO STOP LIVING BY THE DICTATES OF EVIL, SENILE, GREEDY PEOPLE INCLUDING CONGRESSMAN RANGEL. HE SHOULD BE REPLACED BY COMPETENT LEADERSHIP THAT FACTORS IN THE HIGHEST GOOD FOR ALL CONCERNED.

We must demand integrity in elections so people like Congressman Rangel can stop killing the rest of us.

Despite what the government is saying, the toxic dust from the WTC did not stay in Lower Manhattan. The wind carried it much further than New York City. Remember the initial estimates that said 25,000 to 30,000 folks killed on 9/11. By the time World Trade Center Illness runs its course, initial death toll numbers could be accurate. I say that because the City reports that hundreds of thousands of people were exposed.

It's way past time to tell the truth about the government's decision to put New York on lock down when World Trade Center 1, 2 & 7 were exploded. I write exploded because there was thermite found in the dust and all three structures were pulverized, not fallen or burned. As was the case in New Orleans during Katrina, the word "explosions" was used by people who were present at the events.

It is not just the first responders who are suffering and dying. Living, working, visiting for a spell folks were exposed.

Did the toxic dust travel as far as Harlem? Of course it did. Common sense says the wind would carry the dust to many places, including Harlem.

Was there any testing done to see if asbestos and other toxic material traveled into Harlem?
What about folks who live in Harlem and volunteered at Ground Zero, i.e. Albert Davis or worked downtown either on or after 9/11 i.e. Robert Ponce'?
Given the dynamics of insurance, do those exposed have health options if they are among the 40 million or so uninsured in America?
Is Harlem's health care system ready to deal with community folks exposed to the toxic dust?
What have Harlem's elected and appointed officials done to test the area for toxic material from the WTC over the last 5 years?

Chronic exposure to toxic material can cause squamous cell cancer and other medical conditions. It takes 5-15 years to manifest and the reports of people dying are flooding in. There are many ways the problem of World Trade Center Illness is manifesting. Squamous cell cancer is just one.

After 5 years of "studying" the problem, in August, 2006, the City of New York released guidelines to the medical community for how to deal with WTC Illness. The report is from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene titled CLINICAL GUIDELINES FOR ADULTS EXPOSED TO THE WORLD TRADE CENTER DISASTER.

While the EPA and the City of New York are bantering blame about who was responsible for letting people be chronically exposed to a multitude of toxic substances, the result is no less devastating.

The guidelines, whose published section does not include footnotes, paints a grim picture:

Pulverized concrete, glass, plastic, paper, and wood produced alkaline dust. The dust cloud also contained heavy metals, as well as asbestos and other substances that may be carcinogenic. In addition, smoke released from the persistent fires in the months that followed also contained hazardous and potentially carcinogenic substances.

Environmental test results showed that the composition of dust and smoke released into the air and deposited on indoor and outdoor surfaces varied by date and location.10 Individual exposure to contaminants was determined by duration, site, activities, and use of appropriate protective equipment. Health effects related to these exposures may also vary, depending on the intensity and duration of exposure as well as on underlying medical conditions, tobacco use, and individual susceptibility.

Although heavy metals were detected in the air and dust, clinical tests performed on specimens from more than 10,000 firefighters showed no clinically significant concentrations of mercury, lead, or beryllium.11 Heavy metals are usually cleared from the blood and urine within months of exposure."

Inhalation or ingestion of WTC dust and fumes affected the mucous membranes of the nose, sinuses, pharynx, gastrointestinal (GI) tract, and respiratory tract.
The symptoms and signs of these conditions include:
• Sinus, nasal, and postnasal congestion
• Heartburn, hoarseness, and throat irritation
• Shortness of breath and wheezing
• Chronic cough
Some clinicians have described a syndrome consisting of a triad that is typified by:

• Interstitial lung diseases
• Chronic bronchitis/non-asthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis
• Rare reports of pulmonary eosinophilic infiltrates,26 granulomatous pneumonitis,27 and bronchiolitis obliterans28
• Other lung diseases

Patients may also present with other as yet unexplained conditions that require additional diagnostic evaluation. Although the dust cloud contained heavy metals, there is no recognized need to perform blood or urine testing for heavy metals in the absence of specific indicative symptoms."

The guidelines are basically a shopping list for drugs that they disclaim in size 8 type, i.e.:

"Use of brand names is for informational purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene."

These 'guidelines' fall far short of what needs to be done now. They speak of managing symptoms rather than how to heal.

Here's my short list of what needs to be done now.

1. Demand unconditional screening and health care for all affected plus disability pay to cover living expenses. Many have lost their jobs over the last five years, are sick and without insurance. (#3 is how to pay for it).

2. Empower folks to use meditation, work with their Healer Within, hydrotherapy and/or medical hemp (marijuana) to manage and heal if possible. The only good news I found in the guidelines is that in the post 9/11 era, marijuana use is up. Since the problem is toxic material in one's body, cleaning out as much as possible (hydrotherapy - for drinking consider distilled water), reducing stress (meditation, Healer Within and medical hemp). It's going to take a miracle to turn this situation around, but as most Harlemites know, miracles happen every day.

3. Legalize hemp, tax it at 20% to raise revenue to pay for the health care and other social problems. Since the hemp plant scrubbs the air when growing, it can be an effective tool for helping folks by reducing pollutants in the air.

4. Bring to justice those responsible for altering the EPA report that told people that the air was safe to breathe and the water safe to drink. It was not safe, the city was put on lock down with a military compliment, and people are dying as a result of both the City of New York and the U.S. government’s failed policy of lie and hope it gets better. Demand to see the original, unaltered 9/11 air quality report from the EPA and other sources like the sewer air monitors at North River, Newton Creek, Red Hook, Owls Head and Port Richmond. They are suppose to be testing the air because the sewers are uncovered and in case someone throws something toxic into the sewers, we need to know.

5. Establish evacuation procedures that everyone knows about in the event of another emergency situation like the Christmas Tsunami of '04 (the politicians failed to protect Harlem's low lying areas from floods), or Katrina.

6. Work with and demand action from your elected and appointed officials. Even though the elections are rigged so that it's almost impossible to vote them out, there is still room to make them do the right thing and change the law to provide for WTC victims.

7. PRAY! if so inclined.

When I was teaching folks HOW TO COMPUTE in Harlem in the 90's I would tell them how, in the event of a disaster, the helicopters would not be coming to Harlem, but downtown where the money folks are. Sadly, Katrina demonstrated that I was correct.

I close with this last observation. There was no mention of Harlem, or mid-town or New Jersey in the guidelines. The people impacted by this health crisis must look within for answers because the government and the medical community barely have a clue what to do. Their industrial age solutions do not work well in this, the information age.

AIDS SURVIVOR AND THRIVER NIRO MARKOFF IS ALIVE AND WELL 20 YEARS AFTER HEALING

In 1985, therapist Niro Markoff tested HIV positive and was moving into ARC (Aids Related Complex). Facing what many saw as a death sentence at the time, Niro created her own program of emotional therapy, daily meditation, healthy diet and exercise. Niro’s program includes facing and healing fear, shame and guilt; powerful daily meditations, productive journaling, reprioritizing your life, and listening to your inner healer who will tell you what you need to do to allow healing to flow through you…yes you. Since 1986 she has tested HIV negative. She was featured in Parade Magazine and appeared on Donohue on 7/13/93.

I am happy and grateful to report that 20 Years After her healing, Niro Markoff is alive and well. If results in healing counts for anything, this is a case worth revisiting.

Back in the mid 90's at Hale House, the Computer Underground Railroad was able to introduce the Harlem community to Niro Markoff. The day of the event the mothers and children were given free tickets to Radio City Music Hall at the time of the event, so attendance was light.

Hale House's Dr. Ivan Black and a few of the women with HIV/AIDS attended. Dr. Black is one of those true healing angels who helped Mother Clara Hale with her work. Dr. Black was able to achieve a 100% remission rate of babies brought in HIV positive and reverted to HIV negative. The response was to fire Dr. Black. He had created a solution that could get in the way of fundraising. Poverty pimps need poverty to pimp.

Over the years I lost contact with Niro but in June we reconnected via the internet. Out of frustration that there was no real representation of this great healing warrior's work, I typed her book and put it on line for free. Markoff''s book, telling both her story and how folks can connect with their Healer Within, is WHY I SURVIVE AIDS. Since there is little to no money to be made by medical special interests using her techniques (though sometimes the Healer Within does lead one to the right doctors) not much attention was paid to her work, though it was powerful enough to be introduced into the public consciousness.

On 7/13/93, Markoff appeared on Donohue in a show called SHOCKING AIDS CASES DOCTORS - TS930722. She was also frequently featured in Parade Magazine as a long term AIDS survivor.

And the great healers of the day gave her ample praise: Dr. Bernie Siegel was a cancer surgeon for over 20 years at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is the author of LOVE, MEDICINE AND MIRACLES and PEACE. LOVE AND HEALING. He wrote “Niro has been one of my most powerful teachers. Her book can show all of us how to overcome adversity and survive any of life’s threats. I highly recommend it.” The late, great Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross (The Wheel of Life) wrote in her foreward to Markoff’s book: “Niro’s story about her discovery of the AIDS disease as well as her struggle with it-step-by-step-is a light in the darkness for millions.” Hay House’s founder, Louise Hay, author of YOU CAN HEAL YOUR LIFE wrote “Niro is involved in some of the powerful healing work being done with AIDS. She is a beautiful woman whom I admire enormously.”

With what we now know about lobbyist purchasing government policy, that Markoff is not yet well known is no surprise. Through it all, with her champion spirit, she’s never given up on her mission to help heal the planet of AIDS and other life threatening dis-eases by working with one’s Healer Within.Markoff’s work expands beyond AIDS in its effectiveness.

Currently she is looking into healing World Trade Center Illness, an issue that is on its way to the front pages of every news operation in the world. The first responders have already begun to die. They were not the only ones exposed to the toxic material from the explosions of the WTC, nor did the dust stop at 14th Street in Manhattan, where she spent 3 months close to Ground Zero. Hey Harlem, Nayer Here

I left Harlem in '98. As a third generation Harlemite, my soul, on a daily basis, reminds me where home is. Her art, the people, the hope on the streets are still a source of joy in my life. Her parties, politics, accomplishments and beat make Harlem's magic reach me all the way to Arizona. The problems, the solutions, the possibilities, though I'm not there, are still important to me.

I left so many people I deeply love in Harlem.

My brother, Albert Davis, has with the creation of the Harlem Blogosphere given me a back door into the hood.

So, though I have not even visited Harlem, or New York for that matter where I lived for 25 years, I'm taking advantage of this space to get back to addressing the issues that I believe will make Harlem, my homeland, free to be the place of dreams my grandparents came to in the 1920's from Daytona Beach, FL.

I'm talking computerization, the environment, education, health empowerment, community safety, spirit, prosperity, beauty, etc.

So let's start with my main problem with Harlem when I left. A total lack of computerization in the 90's.

Back in '98 Harlem didn't even have one computer super store, and the folks in charge were not going to let one come in, as they demonstrated in the Dis-Empowerment Zone meetings. Not only was there not a computer super store, I'd walked down 125th & 145th Streets and not see one PC in a business or a window.

Members of the 'in charge' team had their own agenda. Even Al Gore came to the Apollo to tell us that though we won the designation for the marketing term "Empowerment Zone," our businesses would not be getting a penny.

The computer training my friends and I were doing at Minisink Townhouse was shut down without warning, computers taken away, and poverty pimps closed ranks, though they were ever so nice about it.

What to do to get more folks on computers in Harlem? Help someone become computer literate or cyber enabled. If you know someone who is not yet computer literate, or are a person who I helped train with the cost of passing the training onto at least two other people, I've posted the training notes HOW TO COMPUTE updated for Windows XP and Word 2003.

Instead of (or in addition to) buying the multi-hundred dollar pair of SNEAKERS, buy a computer and programs. Set up a Technology Club at the bank (or stash savings)to stay on the cutting edge in the same way you set up a Christmas Club.

For example, I'm getting into video on the web and the extra change I had stashed came in handy when I needed a video camera and Adobe Premiere. I have my first few pieces posted on my book page. Technology changes fast, and even personal computers are becoming obsolete.

Key to fixing the problem of a lack of adequate computerization is to computerize. So let's see where we are.

Did Harlem ever get a computer super store? (Staples, bless their hearts, is not a computer super store. Consider a web search for "Staples" "Harlem")
Did Harlem ever re-establish an effective, free, community based training for computers and other technology?
Are the politicians and business folks adequately computerized?
Are the senior centers and independent seniors adequately computerized?
Are the community boards adequately computerized?
What's the computer/student ratio in the schools and how are the children using them?
Are the residents getting skills to set up on line businesses to supplement other income, share their art, reunite with family, research passions, worship and pray, build stronger multi-generational bridges, etc?
What do the people see, feel, hear, taste and smell when they consider a computerized Harlem?
If the level of the ocean rose quickly, as what happened during Tsunami '04 and Katrina '05, or the projected impact of global warming on coastal cities (the ice caps are melting in chunks the size of small states), how could computers be used to help folks get out alive?

I pray the answers are yes, Harlem is now adequately computerized, because computers have information folks can use to save their lives in this, the Information Age.

Like many, I watched in horror last year as Katrina come into NOLA. Harlem is a low-lying area at the edge of the ocean at the beginning of global warming, like NOLA. I noticed, among the folks caught in Katrina, not one lap top.

Web access provided supporting documentation to understand the meaning of a storm going from at Cat 2 to a Cat 5 overnight. The cloudy eye was another clue.

During Katrina, people were trapped without a way to find food, water or medical attention. Many were re-united with family and friends on line. Tearful stories.

Katrina my ass. Those without the information and the means were left to suffer. Even though the government acted like they did not know the folks were there, they did, and did nothing.

Information helps folks take care of themselves. Lack of information can leave one stranded at the Superdome (or on Sugar Hill) chanting "HELP ME! HELP ME! HELP ME!"

If a Katrina style storm happens in New York, and it can, Harlem folks should be pretty certain that the rescue helicopters will not be on 110th, 125th or 145th Streets. They will be at Wall Street and Midtown...maybe the Upper East Side.

Consider 9/11. While the government was telling folks that the dust from the WTC was not toxic and that it stayed in lower Manhattan, information on the web painted an entirely different picture. As I read about paper from the exploded World Trade Center buildings reaching Long Island (yes, they were exploded, see Loose Change, Second Edition) I asked, 'if a piece of paper traveled that far, how far did the toxic dust travel? Where did it land? OMG!!!!!!!! "

I'm still concerned about how much of the toxic dust reached Harlem (and throughout the tri-state area), and what will be the health consequences to her under-insured population. Did anybody ever test for the toxic material from the WTC in Harlem? Did it land on the buildings and streets? Was in inhaled, eaten and drank as dust on the food? Did any of the asbestos in the buildings land in the curtains, furniture and clothes uptown? What are the health effects of breathing both treated sewer air from the 5 open sewers and WTC dust?

Computers have their limitations. When 9/11 happened I emailed Clinton, Schumer and others about my concerns. They had policies in place where they don't answer emails from folks not in their district. They said to contact my senators, Kyl and McCain. Both offices told me there was no problem according to the EPA and I should mind my own business. So I put up a site, with a lot of help from World Trade Center Volunteer Albert Davis on the subject.

Second hand information in the information age is the new slavery. With computer access and skills, I find information way before the traditional broadcast and cable media can fit the story into their show line, if they think it's worth mentioning.

Those of us who are computerized have a sacred knowledge that it's imperative that we share. We never know where the next great idea, or salvation piece, will come from.
